PluginInstaller – Troubleshooting issues
Posted on March 29, 2017
Occasionally I receive reports of issues with the Plugin Installer not working for some reason. The error typically states the following:
* Activation of C:\Users\UsernameHere\Downloads\PluginInstaller.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:+ Deployment and application do not have matching security zones.
The error is typically caused by one of a few issues:
- You’re attempting to install from the LabTech server or another server with IE in hardened mode. The ClickOnce installation has issues with strict IE security and will fail to run properly. To resolve this, run the installer from a workstation. Any Windows computer with MySQL or HTTP(s) access can run the installer and successfully install plugins, provided the user has permissions in LabTech.
- Date/Time is off. The application is signed with a certificate and requires proper date/time synchronization. Please make sure these are correct.
- SquattingDog.net is in your Restricted Sites list, or another IE setting is causing issues. If you’re using a workstation and still having issues, reset IE security settings to default, or try from another workstation. The applicaation has been used by hundreds of users, so odds are your issue is limited to settings on your computer.
All else fails, please contact support@squattingdog.net and I’ll dig in to get you taken care of.
Thanks!
