Poll results: The next free plugin!
Posted on August 8, 2015
OK, so far and away, the winning request was for a TreeSize type plugin. I’ve been looking for a suitable application to retrieve the results via command line so they can be easily viewed, and it hasn’t been a fun search so far; the difficulty is finding something free (for commercial use) or affordable, but also able to export the results in a format that can be parsed. I haven’t given up hope and have one or two ideas. If you have a suggestion, please feel free to throw it in the comments!
Note that TreeSize would require a site/country/global license, depending on the MSP’s needs, and MindGem’s Folder Size application would require an individual profession license per computer, and that the install can’t be automated. Both of those are out.
In second place (and coming sometime after the TreeSize type plugin) was Admin rights auditor. The first assumption would be that this means you want to be able to scan computers to find out who has admin rights on them. If this is incorrect, please let share your intention in the comments as well.
Thanks!
Auditing local admin rights (or local groups in general) would be a huge time saver.
Instead of TreeSizeFree, you could see if WinDirStat is a better option
Greggory,
Thanks for the feedback. Tree Size free wouldn’t be viable anyway because it doesn’t allow command line arguments or commercial usage. I’m investigating a couple of tools and working with some vendors to find the right tool and hope to have it available soon.
Thanks!
